The Society for Artificial Intelligence in Vision and Ophthalmology (SAIVO). is a new society devoted specifically to ophthalmic artificial intelligence and big data formed by a broad group of academic ophthalmologists at this past 2025 ARVO. More information about the society can be found at www.saivo.org. Despite the short time since SAIVO’s founding, our members already represent the ophthalmic AI communities of 19 different countries.
SAIVO is a not-for-profit society that aims to bring together a global community of clinicians, scientists, engineers, and innovators working at the forefront of artificial intelligence in eye care and vision science. Members will have access to a growing network of peers and collaborators, opportunities to serve on committees, early access to educational and scientific content, and a role in shaping the field’s direction.
With the establishment of SAIVO, we are also pleased to announce the first journal dedicated to ophthalmic AI, Artificial Intelligence in Vision and Ophthalmology (AIVO). AIVO will be the official journal of SAIVO.
The SAIVO Inaugural Annual Meeting will take place on Friday, October 17, 2025, in Orlando, Florida from 6:00 PM to 10 PM.
The SAIVO Annual Meeting will convene leaders and emerging voices in AI and ophthalmology for an evening of cutting-edge research, clinical insights, and interactive dialogue. This year’s meeting in Orlando will feature keynote presentations, selected abstracts (https://app.oxfordabstracts.com/stages/79415/submitter), and discussions focused on accelerating safe and effective AI integration in ophthalmic practice and research. Among the keynote speakers for our Inaugural Annual Meeting will be Dr. Michael Chiang, Director of the National Eye Institute. Registration for the meeting can also be found at https://www.saivo.org/annual-meeting.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of us with questions or ideas – we hope to work with you to continue to build this community.
